A Reality Check from Africa

Since 2017, I’ve visited countless African homes. Each time, I tell myself I’m stronger now, that it won’t break me again. I’m a master at deceiving myself.
Yesterday, Jure sent me a photo of a “wealthier” African home. The energy was unmistakable: dead, sad, heartbreakingly empty of everything we take for granted.
When asked what they needed, their response would break the strongest person: “Everything is fine, we don’t need anything… our child eats at school.”
The gratitude for their child’s school meals is immense. The fear of asking for anything else – lest they lose even that – is even greater.
